Writing Creative Poetry
Writing poetry always seemed to come as a challenge for me. I never wrote much poetry until this class. It is not that I didn't like it, it was the fact that I didn't think I was creative enough to write a solid poem. I have to say that Writer's Craft class has really changed my poetry writing abilities. Ms. Stronach's breathing and relaxation exercises really help in opening my mind and get all the creative ideas flowing. I also find it helps to not think too hard about what to write. The longer you sit there, frustrated because you can't think of what to write, the harder it will be to construct a creative poem. If you just relax and let your hand write what it wants to write, you will be surprised at what comes onto the page. Ms. Stronach taught us that as well, and it works, for me anyways. The neat thing about poetry is that everyone's poems will be unique, everyone has a different idea of what creativity is. It is interesting to see the many different ideas and writing styles that people use. Up until this point, I never considered myself a creative person. However, after writing all of these poems, I am beginning to realize that we are all creative. Some people may have more creativity than others, but we all have atleast a little bit. When you think about it, is it possible to write poems ( or any other pieces of writing) without any creativity at all? No. Don't ever think you can't write a poem because you believe that you don't have creativity. Everyone has it, so let it out and see what happens. You just never know until you try- that's what I learned.
