Ok, so I have to admit that I could never, in a million years be a screenwriter! I never realized how difficult writing a movie script would be until doing the screenplay assignment. I must say I have gained so much respect for screen writers as they are truely talented people. Think about it, some screenwriters are capable of writing scripts for movies that end up being box-office hits! There's some serious skill right there. Imagine how much time and effort it takes these writers to get the scripts perfect. It's amazing.
So now that I have rambled on about screenwriters, I will shift my train of thought to what movies mean to me. Personally, I like movies, but I don't absolutely love them or depend on them. I will watch movies at home with friends and family sometimes, but not too often. Ususally, I will go see movies at the theatre with friends; I would much rather go to the theatre than watch them at home! It's just so much more exciting, in my opinion. Generally, I prefer comedy movies over any other type of movie. My second favourite type of movie would probably be action. While I watch movies, I often think things like wow, how did the screenwriter come up with such a cool idea? Or, how did the screenwriter have enough exciting ideas to make a movie out of?
When we were first told about the screenwriting assignment I sort of panicked. I thought, Oh no I can't write a twenty page script! When I first sat down to write, nothing came to my mind. I totally blanked out and had no idea what to write about. However, as the days went on, I started to generate ideas and eventually I started writing. Day after day, coming up with ideas became easier and I was writing non stop. Everything was flowing perfectly. So, in the end, I had a screenplay ( sorry, the formatting is kind of messed up!)
I know for a fact that my screenplay is not any masterpiece. I know that it is only a first version, so I am not too worried about the imperfections. Now that I am looking back on the writing experience, I see that it really wasn't as difficult as I thought it would be. In a way it was fun because I (and the rest of us) got to express my personality through my writing and come up with my own creative ideas.
So, I just want to close this entry by saying one thing. I am thankful for those who are talented screenwriters because without them, movies would not be an excellent source of entertainment for us!
